Development of the circular economy?

The UN estimates that the population increases by 83 million people every year. That's 83 million more inhabitants who rely on a share of the world's resources so they can at least be fed and clothed, have a roof over their heads, and turn on a light.

This development has put pressure on our planet's resource assets. Our natural world can only regenerate in 1.5 years what is consumed by the world's population in one year.

Although great strides have been made in resource efficiency, this is not enough to stop the damage to our planet.

For a sustainable circular economy, we need a new mindset and new business models. Reuse and recycle are essentially the pillars for the beginning of sustainable economic growth.

A study by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation describes the lasting benefits of moving to a circular economy, using a country like Denmark as an example.

In essence, it outlines a more innovative, resilient, and productive economy that becomes stronger and more capable in the aggregate.

The study's models suggest, even for a small country like Denmark, that the transition to a circular economy could result in a 0.8-1.4% increase in GDP by 2035, as well as the creation of up to 13 thousand additional employment equivalents, a 3-7% reduction in carbon footprint, a 5-10% reduction in CO2 emissions from primary raw material consumption for selected materials, and a 3-6% increase in net exports.
