Match Circular

More circular economy for more sustainable construction projects.

Artificial intelligence paves the way to green procurement of raw materials by managing resources on construction sites and unlocking potential for re- and upcycling.

Match applications and Site Depot allow new circular economy business models to promote more sustainability in the production and use of asphalt, concrete and mineral bulk materials.

Resources in the local or regional cycle are better used or made available for upcycling.

With Site Depot, recyclable material becomes visible and plannable as a resource.

Development of the circular economy?

The UN estimates that the population increases by 83 million people every year. That's 83 million more inhabitants who rely on a share of the world's resources so they can at least be fed and clothed, have a roof over their heads, and turn on a light.

This development has put pressure on our planet's resource assets. Our natural world can only regenerate in 1.5 years what is consumed by the world's population in one year.

Although great strides have been made in resource efficiency, this is not enough to stop the damage to our planet.

For a sustainable circular economy, we need a new mindset and new business models. Reuse and recycle are essentially the pillars for the beginning of sustainable economic growth.

A study by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation describes the lasting benefits of moving to a circular economy, using a country like Denmark as an example.

In essence, it outlines a more innovative, resilient, and productive economy that becomes stronger and more capable in the aggregate.

The study's models suggest, even for a small country like Denmark, that the transition to a circular economy could result in a 0.8-1.4% increase in GDP by 2035, as well as the creation of up to 13 thousand additional employment equivalents, a 3-7% reduction in carbon footprint, a 5-10% reduction in CO2 emissions from primary raw material consumption for selected materials, and a 3-6% increase in net exports.

What role can the German construction industry play in comparison?

With the help of MATCH DEPOT ANALYSER, MATCH CIRCULAR and SITE DEPOT, new cycles within companies and new raw material chains can be developed in the construction and building materials industry.

The potential of the German construction industry is considerably greater than assumed. True sustainability is also not an economic disadvantage.

The introduction of a circular economy reduces industrial emissions, reduces production and exposure to hazardous substances and contributes to mitigating climate change.

In the European Union (EU), the circular economy is seen as an opportunity for the (relatively) resource-poor continent to secure access to vital resources, maintain global competitiveness, and ensure a high-quality environment for Europe and the world.

Our software solutions are individually adaptable to needs of companies in the building materials industry. They allow companies to actively enter the circular economy, but decide for themselves how to cooperate with market participants.

Successfully making the transition to a more circular economy requires the combined efforts of public sector clients, businesses, investors, innovators and consumers.

N1 provides sustainable solutions to support these steps for the construction industry in the asphalt, concrete and bulk mineral segments. Other segments such as cement and steel are already in beta phases with selected market participants in planning.

Many companies in the EU are ready to move forward with the circular economy, but financing is proving difficult. It is estimated that €320 billion will be needed to implement projects by 2025.

Longer-term measures, such as legislative changes at EU and national levels, are designed to ensure that public actors facilitate the transition to a circular economy.

Incentives are to be provided in the following main areas:

  • Leveling the playing field,
  • improving cooperation in the value chain,

  • ensuring long-term value creation,

  • a better market participation of consumers,

  • the integration of the public good,

  • training financial experts within circular economy models,

  • building knowledge and leading the way.

The increasing global pressure on resources means an inevitable rethinking of the current way of production and consumption.

N1 focuses on software for the circular economy with solutions such as MATCH CIRCULAR, MATCH DEPOT ANALYSER and SITE DEPOT. The circular economy strategy aims to ensure that users can become a faster and stronger part of a "Circular Econony" through N1's solution offering. The AI offerings are based on the NIC.AI platform (NIC.AI stands for N1 Construction Artificial Intelligence) technology specifically tuned for the circular economy.

On the one hand, N1 solutions support a sustainable use of resources, but also contribute to maintaining a high level of competitiveness. At the same time, the N1 product portfolio allows for the sustainable management of natural resources and represents an ongoing contribution to continuous business growth.

For example, a sustainable wall construction is based on a sustainable wall building material, its sustainability is largely provided by the share of recycled material.

Individual MATCH CIRCULAR solutions make a raw material supply with suitable recycled or upcycled material possible and plannable.
